Two men have been arrested on suspicion of poaching deer in the Telford area.

West Mercia Police said it was called at about 03:30 BST on Monday to reports of deer being illegally hunted.

It added officers went to a property in Sutton Hill, where the remains of a deer were discovered and the two men arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and poaching.

The men, aged 20 and 37, have since been released on bail as inquiries continue.

A dog with serious injuries was also discovered at the property, and taken away by officers for treatment.

Sgt Matt Corfield thanked members of the public for "promptly notifying" the police, and said such reports played a crucial role in protecting the environment.

"Please be assured that we are taking this matter seriously, as poaching is an illegal activity that causes unnecessary harm to our local wildlife," he added.
