Shipley's former Ibis has been turned into a Travelodge

A hotel in Shipley will be rebranded after being taken over by the Travelodge group.

The 78-room Ibis at Quayside is one of four hotels recently purchased by the budget hotel chain.

Travelodge has submitted a planning application to Bradford Council for permission to install new signage at the hotel to complete the rebrand.

The planning application said the change will also include a full refurbishment of the hotel.

The other three hotels recently bought by Travelodge are Preston North, close to the M6, Chesterfield town centre and Cardiff Gate, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Steve Bennett, chief of property for the chain, said: "We're seeing increasing opportunities to convert well-located, existing hotels into Travelodges, and we're actively looking for more.

"These hotels are able to open much quicker than new development schemes, as no planning or other consents are required, and they also remove other competitors' room stock from the market, rather than adding new supply, so they are a great way for Travelodge to open new rooms."
