Two swimmers have been rescued after getting caught out by the weather in Jersey, firefighters have said.

A Facebook post, external from Jersey Fire and Rescue said it received a call from the coastguard at about 08:45 BST on Saturday to reports the swimmers had got into difficulty near Bel Croute.

The pair were located on rocks they managed to reach and a boat was sent out to retrieve them.

Firefighters said the duo, who were uninjured, were experienced swimmers but had been caught by a heavy shower which passed through along with strong winds and the tide.

Firefighters praised members of the public who called the emergency services after spotting the swimmers in trouble and helping crews locate the pair.

They also said the swimmers made a good decision by getting to the closest point to shore that they could rather than trying to swim against a strong current.
