Margate Pride celebrations have begun with a colourful parade along the Kent town's seafront.

The annual event, which organisers said "seeks to advance equity and justice for LGBTQIA+ people", is in its ninth year.

The parade began at Walpole Bay Lawns at midday and moved along the seafront to Dreamland.

The theme park hosted DJs and speakers throughout Saturday afternoon, and is set to host a drag party on Saturday evening.

The event's line up includes DJ Jodie Harsh, former RuPaul's Drag Race UK contendant Bimini and DJ and performer Raven Mandella.

Margate Pride said: "Everyone is welcome at this high camp, sparkly celebration of pride together in Margate."

LGBTQIA+ is an acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual.
