Gas has returned to properties in a Surrey village after a burst water main leaked into the gas main.

Approximately 360 properties had their gas shut off in Gomshall, near Guildford, on Sunday evening, according to gas supplier SGN.

Supplies could not be turned back on until all of the water had been removed from the network.

An SGN spokesperson said gas was now available to all affected properties.

"We're reconnecting supplies in the local area," they said.

"If a card has been left at your property, please call the contact number as soon as possible to rearrange a visit from one of our engineers."

Affected properties had been visited by SGN to have their supplies turned off at the meter, while residents have also been warned not to attempt to turn the gas back on themselves.

Staff also set up a customer advice centre at Gomshall Village Sports & Social Club in Queen Street, where electric heaters and hot plates for cooking were available for those who needed them.
