Security plan after archives staff face violence

Staff have faced violence and threats when opening the gates to the building's car park, a planning application said

Lincolnshire Archives is seeking better security measures after staff reported they faced violence and threats when arriving and leaving their offices.

A planning application for the site on St Rumbold’s Street, near Lincoln city centre said there had been a rise in anti-social behaviour around the building, including signs of suspected drug taking.

It highlights the car park and people blocking fire escapes as problem areas.

The county council wants to install fencing, automatic car park gates and security shutters.

The planning application said workers have faced “threatening behaviour, altercations and even harm” while using the Rosemary Lane Car Park entrance early in the morning and late at night.

The document said staff have experienced abuse when they have to leave their cars to lock or unlock the gate.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the planning application is likely to be approved, with the City of Lincoln Council and Lincolnshire Police both saying they have no objections to it.
