A 51-year-old man who slashed a woman's arm while robbing a shop has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years.

Mohammed Chaudry burst into the Premier Store in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough, on 27 July, wearing a mask and carrying a knife.

He approached a female employee working at the shop's till and threatened her with the knife, he then smashed the till and took out its cash, slashing her arm during the altercation.

Chaudry, of Millfield, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday, where he was jailed after pleading guilty to robbery and inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

Chaudry was arrested a couple of days after the crime took place when an officer carrying out inquiries identified him by his trainers.

At the time of the incident Chaudry was on licence as part of his sentence for a murder conviction, which he committed in prison while serving another sentence for a knifepoint robbery.

Det Con Megan Sims, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "Chaudry has shown no remorse for his past actions by continuing to offend despite being on life licence.

"This was an horrific and violent attack which has had a huge impact, both physically and mentally on the victim, and those around her."
