Motorist arrested after girl, 11, hit at crossing

A woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after an 11-year-old girl was hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing.

Northamptonshire Police said it was called to the A4500 Weedon Road in Upton, Northampton, at about 16:05 BST on Monday after a collision involving the girl and a black Toyota Auris car.

The girl was airlifted to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford for treatment. The arrested woman, aged 54 and from Northampton, was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Officers have asked anyone with information or dashcam footage that captured the incident to contact them.
