Teenage girl arrested after stabbing near memorial

A teenage girl has been arrested in connection with a stabbing that left a boy with life-threatening injuries.

Essex Police was called to near the Shoebury Garrison Memorial, Shoeburyness, shortly before 23:45 BST on Sunday.

Officers found a teenage boy had sustained a head injury during an alleged assault involving a knife.

The girl was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit attempted murder and was held for questioning.

The boy remained in a serious condition in hospital, police said.

Southend district commander Jo Collins added that officers had an "open mind" about the alleged assault.

"In the coming days we will continue an increased presence in the area whilst our investigation continues," she said.
