A community theatre in Kent said it is facing a £20,000 shortfall in its finances as it battles to keep events and classes running.

The Astor Theatre in Deal said it needs to raise money to help support its programme of events, which includes theatre, film screenings and creative classes.

Rising energy and supply costs have stretched the resources of the theatre, it said in a statement.

Board member Mig Kimpton said: "This theatre should be a beacon of creativity and support for everyone connected with Deal."

The Astor Theatre has activities for all sections of the community, including babies and the elderly.

The theatre has launched a crowdfunding campaign and over £4,000 has been raised so far.
