A household waste recycling centre in Chesterfield will close for five days in December for maintenance work to be carried out.

Derbyshire County Council said the recycling centre off Stonegravels Lane would close on 8 December and reopen on 13 December.

The resurfacing work has been planned to take place during the week to minimise disruption, the council said.

The authority added the recycling centre in Buttermilk Lane, Bolsover, would open an hour earlier than usual from 08:30 GMT, and close an hour later at 18:00 in anticipation of an increase in the number of people using the site.

Carol Wood, cabinet member for net-zero and environment, said: "We need to carry out this essential work to maintain safety standards at our household waste recycling centre in Stonegravels.

"We'll do all we can to get the work done quickly and reopen as soon as possible but please plan ahead and if at all possible take your waste to Stonegravels before 8 December 2025.

"We'll be extending opening hours at our Bolsover site to help accommodate extra visitors while Stonegravels is closed and thank residents for bearing with us while we carry out this work."
