A five-week programme of work to improve a car park is due to begin this week.

The Tape Street car park in Cheadle, Staffordshire, will stay open but sections of it will be closed to allow the work to take place.

It will see speed bumps replaced as well as the installation of new and additional signage, new pedestrian crossings, drainage works and re-lining the car park to accommodate a one-way system.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council said car parks played a "key role" in supporting town centres for residents, businesses and visitors.

"The works at Tape Street will mean some minor, short-term segregations and partial closures but the car park will remain open for use," said councillor Charlotte Atkins.

"I'd like to thank people for their understanding and patience whilst we carry out these improvement works."
