A road which was closed due to a serious crash has reopened.

The A11 was closed in both directions between the B1135, near Wymondham, and the Thickthorn roundabout, which links to the A47 at Cringleford.

Norfolk Police said both carriageways had reopened, but lane one northbound remained closed due to a broken down vehicle and closures on the roundabout remained from a separate, earlier, spillage.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service was called to the collision at Hethersett at 10:16 BST and said the scene was made safe by 11:01.

Motorists were told to expect delays due to the traffic being stopped and diversions have been set up through the village of Hethersett.

National Highways said police were dealing with a "serious collision", external, with the force adding all emergency services were at the scene.

The agency said the following diversions were in place.

Southbound:

  • Traffic from Thickthorn roundabout should take the B1172 to the park and ride roundabout

  • Take the second exit and continue on the B1172 through Hethersett to Norwich Road roundabout

  • Take the first exit and follow the A11 signs and rejoin at Tuttles Lane interchange

Northbound

  • Leave at the junction with the B1135 at Wymondham and turn left at the end of the slip road

  • At the roundabout take the second exit on to the B1135, followed by the third exit at the next roundabout on to the B1172 towards Hethersett

  • Remain on the B1172 for approximately four miles, passing through Hethersett, to reach the roundabout with the services

  • Take the second exit to continue to the Thickthorn interchange where you can rejoin the A11 or the A47

Lanes on the busy Thickthorn roundabout were already closed on Friday and remained shut overnight due to the diesel spill.

National Highways said it was because it had to carry out resurfacing.
