A Wolverhampton Wanderers fan who has built a football-themed pub in his shed hopes his back-garden boozer will be crowned the best - beating off competition from a West Brom fan.

Glen Gandy, from Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, is in the running for Pub Shed of The Year with his mini Molineux shrine called Cognitos.

He has spent about £20,000 building it himself with the help of friends and it boasts a DJ booth, tonnes of Wolves memorabilia, a Space Invaders machine, a jukebox, beer garden, hot tub and even a shower room.

He is up against The Cattle Shed in Walsall, which despite Baggies fan Kev Cattell's allegiance is not football-themed, and the BrennInn in Burnley by Chris Brennan.

The winner is to be announced on 23 August.

Mr Gandy said there were few rules in his bar, but the main one was "nobody gets out sober".

He initially joined a few Facebook groups about the pub shed community and then entered the competition.

"I entered it just on a whim," he said.

"Out of a thousand entries, [I've] got whittled down to the last three."

Wolves memorabilia fills the walls of the pub alongside a games machine and stools and tables. A small fridge is filled with drinks on the right side and spirits are on the wall, with an ice bucket. A DJ booth is on the left of the time with wooden panelling on the front and shelves filled with record behind.

The bar has Wolves shirts decorating the walls, a fridge filled with beer, and a large television.

There are umbrellas and pub benches outside along with a barbecue and seating area.

As for his local rival, Mr Gandy said he not only knew him but worked on his shed transformation - adding a cheeky secret within the build.

"Kev's a Baggies fan, definitely," he said. "I plastered his bar out as well so I put a couple of Wolves bits behind the wall for him, just so when he rips it down he know who the best team is."

A navy mat shows the words "Cognitos Bar - Nobody gets out sober" and is on the floor of the entrance to the bar.

Mr Gandy said he had enjoyed several parties in his bar, most recently his daughter's 18th birthday with more than 100 guests.

"We had an opening party with [comical character] Clinton Baptiste, the clairvoyant, because he's a big Wolves fan... he came and did the red ribbon for us."

He added: "I should have called it The Dog House as I think this will be where I'm ending up if I'm honest."

The bar name Cognitos is in memory of another comedian he knew - Ian Cognito - who became a good friend before he died on stage during a show.

On the day of the final on 23 August, second and third place entrants get a call just before 20:00 BST, with the winner announced on internet radio station Ngage Radio.

"At 8 o'clock," Mr Gandy explained, "they will turn up to the winner's house so we've all got to throw a big party and then we'll see who is the winner then."

More than 6,000 votes had been cast in the competition, organisers Two Fat Blokes Ltd said.

The white exterior of the bar can be seen with a small patio path right outside. There are umbrellas and pub benches in the garden to the left of the bar.
