Moustache dash to benefit men's health charity

Around 16,000 people are expected to take part in the MoRun across 19 cities

Runners are invited to show off their moustaches as they take part in a men's health charity event.

Nearly 1,000 people are expected to gather at Roundhay Park in Leeds on Sunday, to raise money for the Movember campaign.

Those taking part can enter a half-marathon, 10k or 5k MoRun, with a Mini MoRun for children.

Movember encourages the growing of moustaches in November to raise awareness of men's health issues, including mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Organisers said the Leeds event had already raised more than £4,500 for the charity.

Dave Krangel launched MoRunning in 2009 to support the Movember Foundation.

He said: “Leeds has always been one of our favourites.

"There’s something in the air and the sense of community is fantastic.

“At the time we started it there wasn’t a lot for men’s health.

"It was a great opportunity to do something which we thought would make a real difference.

“What we do isn’t really about running the fastest, it’s about the Mo-community, and sharing the Mo-love."

Moustache-themed fancy dress is encouraged, with a best dressed prize awarded at the end of the run.

“We’ve got some little stick-on moustaches as well for anyone that wants to put one on," said Mr Krangel.

“Absolutely everyone can take part and support the cause, and also be part of something that helps them get fit and healthy”

The half marathon will start at Roundhay Park at 09:30 GMT, with the 5k and 10k starting at 10:00 GMT, followed by the Mini MoRun at 10:30 GMT.

Around 16,000 people are expected to take part in MoRuns this weekend, across 19 cities.
