Lincoln to become ice 'wonderland' for Christmas

Lat year's Lincoln Ice Trail attracted visitors of all ages

Lincoln is to be turned into a "magical winter wonderland" during the Lincoln Ice Adventure this Christmas.

Organised by City of Lincoln Council’s Events in Lincoln team, the event will take place on 7 and 8 December, from 11:00 to 17:00 GMT each day.

The council said the event would be inspired by last year's Lincoln Ice Trail, but would also feature Christmas carollers, a mulled wine stall, and a host of festive activities.

Councillor Joshua Wells, portfolio holder for inclusive economic growth, said the council was "thrilled" to be bringing back the event, adding "Lincoln’s scenic streets are the perfect setting" to celebrate Christmas.

Wells added: "Our goal is to make this festive season unforgettable, with significant investment in beautiful lights, sculptures, carollers, alongside the wider festive offering this season.”

The ice event was introduced in 2023 after the council decided to stop hosting the annual Christmas market.

Sculptures on show this year will include a Viking, nutcracker, and steampunk snowman

This year’s event will feature 16 ice sculptures, designed by Ice Box, for visitors of all ages.

They will be placed in key locations, including Lincoln Cornhill, Steep Hill, and Lincoln Cathedral.

A live ice-carving demonstration of the Lincoln Imp will also be taking place on both days.

At this year’s event, people will have the chance to submit a design to be carved in ice and to feature in the 2025 Lincoln Ice Adventure event.

The council said it would also encourage visitors to use local businesses for Christmas shopping.
