An Olympic gold medallist is to bring a portable velodrome to Scunthorpe.

Emma Finucane won three medals for Team GB at the Paris 2024 games, including gold in the team sprint.

She is due to lead a free "Street Velodrome" event in Church Square, which organisers said would allow people to experience "the thrill of competitive cycling" on a temporary track.

Beginners and experienced cyclists of all ages are encouraged to take part on 22 March between 11:00 and 16:00 GMT.

Organisers say the temporary track will "simulate the fast-paced action of velodrome racing"

The organisers said the event would be run by trained professionals, with safety equipment, including bikes and helmets, provided.

Councillor Carl Sherwood, who has responsibility for community wellbeing at North Lincolnshire Council, said: "To have an Olympian come to Scunthorpe is really exciting.

"Whether you're a complete novice or regularly ride your bike, this is a unique experience for all.

"All you need to do is turn up and have fun."
