A new MRI scanner has been installed at Shropshire’s first Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in Telford.

Its arrival marks the second phase of the site opening after it first became operational in October.

Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) says it has been awarded more than £10m of funding for the conversion of Hollinswood House into a diagnostic centre.

The trust says the new MRI scanner will be used to help diagnose conditions and plan treatments for patients.

Bosses say the new scanner will help improve access to tests

'Faster access'

Executive medical director Dr John Jones, said the new diagnostic centre was helping to reduce waiting times.

“We are already seeing a difference with patients getting faster access to non-urgent tests and scans,” he said.

“The addition of a new MRI scanner will only enhance this, as patients will benefit from the most up-to-date technology which provides more advanced and high quality images.”

Alison Bussey, chief nursing officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, external, added that the new CDC would improve patient care and access to tests and scans.

She said: “Feedback on the new facility has been really positive since it opened its doors in October, and we look forward to developing it further over the coming months.”
