More than half of a fund set up to create a lasting legacy in the Borders from the UCI Cycling World Championships remains unspent.

Time is running out for applications for grants to be made with the deadline set at the end of January next year.

From the original £125,000 Scottish Borders Council (SBC) fund, some £74,000 still remains.

Organisations can apply for grants between £3,000 and £15,000.

The UCI World Championships were held in Glasgow and across Scotland in August - including in the Tweed Valley.

The fund was created to help deliver local cycling-related events and activities.

SBC leader Euan Jardine urged people to come forward to seek support.

"We really want to encourage and inspire new and existing cyclists, get more people cycling and especially encourage cycling within under-represented groups, including children and young people, girls and women," he said.

"Some funds are still available, so I'd encourage anyone with an idea for an event or activity that helps achieve these aims to get in touch."

Among the events already supported was the We Are Innerleithen photography exhibition organised by The Hub community interest company.

Carmel Scott, who is from the group, said: "We could not have staged the exhibition without the funding and support from the community cycling fund.

"We had these amazing images and we were able to add to the images and then curate the exhibition, which was a great success.

"We have plans to develop this for the future too."
