Markets cancelled as weather warning issued

Retford holds markets on Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Two Nottinghamshire town markets have been cancelled after strong winds were forecast.

Markets in Worksop and Retford, due to take place on Friday, have been called off after a weather warning of gusts up to 60mph (95km/h) was issued by the Met Office.

Storm Éowyn has prompted both yellow and amber warnings, with the two towns close to where the two warning areas meet.

Bassetlaw District Council apologised for the disruption but said it had prioritised the safety of the public, market traders and staff.

Markets in both towns will take place as normal on Saturday, the council said.

Storm Éowyn is the fifth named storm of the season but forecasters say its exact route across Britain was still unclear.
