A town's new post office is now set to open in January after being pushed back twice.

The branch Stockton High Street will be in a building that previously housed a furniture store.

It had initially been due to open in September after the town's previous branch, in a WHSmith shop on Wellington Square, closed in May.

Stockton West MP Matt Vickers said he was relieved a revised opening date had been announced following "frustrating issues with the electrical connection". Stockton North MP Chris McDonald also welcomed the news.

"It's something that local people have been excited about and there were so many contacting me to call for its return," he said.

The new branch is due to open on 7 January, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
