Woman denies murdering five-week-old baby

A woman has pleaded not guilty to murdering a five-week-old baby.

Amy Clarke, of Enots Close, Lichfield, Staffordshire entered pleas at Birmingham Crown Court to eight alleged offences, including the murder and manslaughter of Darcy-Leigh Jefferson on 29 March 2022.

She denied another six charges, alleged to have happened between 20 February and 27 March 2022, including causing or allowing a child to die, grievous bodily harm with intent, causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm and child cruelty.

The 34-year-old and Sean Jefferson, 35, of Birch Court, Walsall, who has previously denied the same charges, are due to stand trial in January 2026.

During the short hearing, Ms Clarke appeared via video link from prison.

Judge Andrew Smith KC said the trial for Mr Jefferson and Ms Clarke would begin on 14 January and was expected to take place at Stafford Crown Court.
