Cracked city roads to close for repairs

“Pitted” roads in the east of Leicester are set to shut for resurfacing.
Leicester City Council said traffic and winter weather had combined to crack and break the surfaces of Uppingham Road, Scraptoft Lane and The Portwey.
Two sets of closures are now planned to allow repairs to be carried out.
Diversions and parking restrictions will be in place for the duration of the resurfacing.
Uppingham Road and part of Scraptoft Lane will be closed for five days from Saturday.
A diversion will be set up along Coleman Road, Wicklow Drive and Goodwood Road.
The east side of The Portwey will then close from 22 August for three days.
Traffic will be diverted along Hastings Road, Overton Road and the reopened Uppingham Road.
A spokesperson said work was being carried out where road surfaces had become "pitted, cracked or broken" over time, due to wear and tear caused by traffic and the effects of winter weather.
Director of highways Martin Fletcher said the council would aim to keep disruption to a minimum and thanked people for their patience and understanding.
