A motorbike pillion passenger has died in hospital after a crash in Aberdeenshire.

Vineta Lozenberga, 55, from the Banchory area, was on a Triumph Rocket which was in collision with a Nissan Qashqai in the Bridge of Canny area at about 15:00 on Sunday 4 August.

She was taken to hospital with the 43-year-old male rider, but Police Scotland said she had now died.

Ms Lozenberga's family said she would be "greatly missed" by her daughters and grandchildren.

Relatives said in a statement: "With a heavy heart we are sad to announce the passing of our mum, Vineta Lozenberga.

“Sadly she passed away surrounded by her loved ones. She will be greatly missed by her daughters and grandchildren. We would like to thank Aberdeen Royal Infirmary intensive care unit for taking a great care of our mum. “

Insp Lorraine Mackie of Police Scotland said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died and everyone involved.

“Our inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who can assist with our investigation who has not already spoken to officers is asked to get in touch, external."

The driver and passenger of the car were not injured.
