A paediatric nurse who is competing on the new series of the Great British Bake Off says having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) allows her to "hyperfocus" on her bakes.

Georgie, a 34-year-old mum-of-three from Carmarthenshire, is one of 12 amateur bakers appearing in this year's TV competition.

"My ADHD does affect my everyday life and most definitely baking," she said.

"When I can hyperfocus on a bake I can do it to the best of my ability in a short space of time.

"On the flip side this can also cause me to rush and make mistakes."

The Great British Bake Off, presented by Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday evening for its 15th series.

The contestants will compete to impress judges Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood across a series of baking challenges.

Georgie, a 34-year-old mum from Carmarthenshire, said she "screamed" when she heard she had a place on the show

Georgie, who is the first Welsh contestant on the show for five years, told her Instagram followers: "The Welsh are back in the game."

She said she screamed when she found out she would be appearing on the show.

"When I had the call I screamed at one of the producers 'shut up no way!' and just kept repeating it," she said.

"I was at home on my own and started running and jumping around the house as soon as I got off the phone. Luckily I have no nearby neighbours to overhear the screams."

Georgie, felt "really star struck" the first time she met Hammond and Fielding, added: "Seeing the tent for the first time was a real pinch me feeling. It was really hard to sink in, but so incredibly exciting."

Among the other bakers are former nail technician Hazel, who is the group's oldest baker at 71, and dentistry student Sumayah, who, at the age of 19, is the youngest contestant competing this year.

The new series of the Great British Bake Off begins on Channel 4 on Tuesday 24 September at 20:00 BST.
