Parents urged to apply for secondary school places

Parents are being urged to submit applications for secondary school places as hundreds have been left unfinished, said a council.
City of Wolverhampton Council said "time is of the essence", with three quarters of parents in the area already submitting an application for Year 7 places.
It said applications for 300 school places have been started, but not yet submitted.
Students making the transition from primary school have until Thursday 31 October to submit applications.
Brenda Wile, the council’s deputy director of education, said: “If your child is in their final year at primary or junior school, you should now be making your application for a secondary school place for them.
“While making the transfer to secondary school may seem a long way off, the closing date for applications is next Thursday, 31 October, so time really is of the essence.
“The process is quick and easy, and ensuring applications are made before the deadline will increase the chances of securing a place at a preferred school.”
Parents and guardians will be notified of their child's allocated place on 3 March next year, said the council.
