The planned daytime closure of part of a main route between the Isle of Man's capital and and the north has been called off due to high winds.

A section of the A18 Mountain Road had been due to close from 09:30 to 16:30 GMT as part of a road safety improvement programme.

But, the Department of Infrastructure said the first day of planned survey work ahead of the project had been postponed because the weather was "not suitable".

Tuesday's closure from Brandywell Road to the Creg ny Baa junction was expected to go ahead as planned, the department said.

Further closures on 9, 10, 16 and 17 December have also been scheduled, with 11 and 18 December earmarked as contingency dates.

Once the survey work has been completed, the road will be closed from the Bungalow to Creg Ny Baa 24 hours a day to allow for excavated for drainage works and resurfacing from 31 March to 26 April.

The department said the works were being carried to improve the condition and safety of the carriageway based on data collected on crashes.

Additional road closures between Ramsey and the Bungalow will be implemented from 14 to 17 April and 22 to 25 April.
