Bradford district gets first average speed cameras

The Bradford district is to get its first average speed check cameras.
The cameras would be installed on the A650 Bingley bypass between Keighley and Cottingley, Bradford Council said.
A spokesperson said West Yorkshire Police and members of the public had raised concerns about drivers speeding along the dual carriageway.
The speed limit would also be cut to a standard 50mph (80km/h) from the roundabout at Cottingley to the roundabout near Marley Stadium in Keighley.
The scheme is expected to cost £230,000.
The council made a successful bid for funding from the government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlements scheme.
Average speed check cameras monitor a driver's speed along a stretch of highway rather than at a single point.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, said they ensured "a high level of speed compliance".
He said: "I am happy that we've been able to secure the finance to be able to deliver this much-needed road safety scheme.
"The public, police and local councillors have raised concerns about speeding and anti-social driving on this stretch of road and this scheme is designed to reduce this."
He said the cameras would "allow the police to concentrate on other matters in the district".
