A disused social club could be converted into three five-bedroom homes.
Greystar Homes Limited has put forward plans to develop the former Brierley Village Club in Church Street.
The venue, which closed in 2019, sits in a conservation area, with Greystar saying the project would be carried out sensitively to preserve the building's character.
In considering the plan, Barnsley Council said it would look at the potential loss of a social amenity, despite the club not having been used for six years and Greystar stating there were other hospitality outlets nearby.
The developer's application, external states a single-story extension to the club would be demolished as part of the project, "enhancing its historical character", and externally materials would be chosen "to complement the historic setting".
It said the scheme would would help to meet local housing need.
According to the plans, each of the homes would have at least two parking spaces.
Barnsley Council has invited the public to comment on the plan until 11 November, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
