City of Wolverhampton Council has awarded a £3m contract to a developer to build 10 bungalows on an estate.

The "affordable" bungalows will be built by Cannock-based Morro Partnerships on the site of the former Dale House care home on the Low Hill estate.

The care home, on the corner of Showell Circus and Hendon Close, was demolished in 2008 and the site has remained empty since.

An application to build eight two-bed and two one-bed bungalows was approved by the council in early 2024.

Approval for nine new homes was given in 2020 after a bid to build 43 flats and communal facilities for the elderly to replace the care home was rejected by the council in 2008, due to the size of the proposed building.

The three-storey block, which would have housed four times the number of people than the care home, would have been "overwhelming", the council said at the time.

Next week, the cabinet will discuss plans to sell a row of old offices on the opposite side of Showell Circus as one of several sites that will be sold to meet a £4.5m savings target.

The former council offices, which are still owned by the local authority, could be used for new housing.
