Student completed 'coursework from hospital beds'

Ocean overcame serious health challenges to get her results

A Jersey student has said she spent a lot of time doing her BTEC coursework from "hospital beds" as she picked up her results.
Ocean, 18, studied health and social care at Highlands College but has struggled with her health after being diagnosed with epilepsy in 2022.
She then developed a paralysed stomach, which meant she had to be fed through a tube for four months. Ocean went onto achieve the grades she needed to enrol for the social work course at Highlands in September.
It comes as students from Jersey's colleges receive their A-Level and BTEC results. The overall pass rate was 98.6% for the 523 students who entered 1,355 A-Level examinations, an increase on 96.4% in 2024, said the States.
Students achieved a 25.9% pass rate at grades A* and A, and a 76.6% rate at A* to C, the government said.

Other Highlands students gathered for their results from the college's Great Hall
Ocean was moved to tears with her family when she collected her results at the college.
She said: "I'm so shocked I got the results I did," adding: "To see the progress and come out with a D*,D* and a D was phenomenal."
Ocean added: "Since I've studied at Highland I've loved it and I've not regretted one moment of my time here."
Minister for Education Deputy Rob Ward congratulated the students and staff and said the "achievement is a testament to your hard work and dedication".
Neve, 18, got the grades she needed at Hautlieu to go onto study at Brighton University.

Neve said it was a nervous morning for her and other students
She said: "I was so nervous, I was terrified", and: "I was expecting the worse so I'm happy with what I got.
"The two years here were good and I don't think you really think about the actual results until you're sitting for them and realise 'this is it' so the last few weeks it has been all I can think about," Neve added.

Lukundo says it is important for students to work together during their A Levels
Lukundo, 18, is the head boy at Victoria College and is going off to study at a US university.
He said "I'm very excited about that" and "these have been some of the best years of school I've ever experienced".
Lukundo added: "I have had people come together to help each other revise, which has really helped us through this."
