New drone footage has revealed the extent of the flooding across fields in Cheshire after a canal burst its banks during the New Year's Day floods.

The video shows stretches of land near the village of Little Bollington left underwater from the overflowing Bridgewater Canal.

Nearby properties were evacuated and a section of the M56 had to be closed afterwards.

Elsewhere, Greater Manchester Police declared a major incident as large parts of north-west England were deluged by torrential rains, leaving some people trapped in their homes.
