Two men have been arrested after a hit-and-run crash left a teenage boy in critical condition.

The 17-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries in the collision, on Halifax Road in the Buttershaw area of Bradford.

West Yorkshire Police said officers in a patrol car had witnessed a car on the opposite side of the road "believed to be travelling above the speed limit" around the time of the incident.

The force said the vehicle was believed to have hit the boy at around 20:30 BST on Monday, before leaving the scene.

Officers said one man, 33, had been held on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

The other man, also 33, had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
