A wall and part of an adjoining car park have collapsed after heavy rain and thunderstorms.

The wall, linked to a block of flats in The Ropewalk, part of The Park Estate in Nottingham, fell into a walkway on Saturday night.

Residents said the condition of the wall "deteriorated" overnight with a small section of the car park also crumbling away.

Emergency services attended and taped off the blocked footpath in Newcastle Terrace.

Drew Masci, who lives on the top floor of the attached building, known as Park Heights, said he felt a "big shake" on Saturday night but assumed it was a lorry driving by.

The 39-year-old said: "The next morning, a friend came by and as they pulled into the car park they called me saying the wall was missing."

A second tenant, who did not want to be named, said the damage to the car park meant he would have to find street parking elsewhere, which he said would come at a big cost.

The 28-year-old added: "Initially, I thought I hope no-one's under there."

Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended.

No injuries were reported and the path remains blocked.

The management company of Park Heights has been contacted for comment.
