Park and ride fares to be halved in two towns
- Published
The price of park and ride services in two towns will be halved until March with an aim of encouraging more people to use public transport.
The fare reduction from £2 to £1 in Ludlow and Shrewsbury will be introduced from Monday with the help of a £1.8m Department for Transport grant.
The council said increased use of park and ride services could cut congestion in the two town centres.
The government money, announced in June, will also pay for a number of other bus service initiatives.
In Shrewsbury, the fare will apply to all passengers boarding the bus at the Harlescott, Meole Brace and Oxon park and ride sites.
While in Ludlow, the fare will apply to all passengers boarding at the ECO park site.
The south Shropshire town will also get a new park and ride shuttle bus.
The council said that if further funding became available, it had more plans to improve its park and ride services.
