Road reopens following serious crash

The A5 in Leicestershire has reopened in both directions following a serious crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Smockington, near Hinckley, just before 21:00 GMT on Tuesday.

National Highways said the northbound carriageway between the M69 and the A4303 reopened shortly after 07:00 and final clear-up work was completed on the southbound side at about 08:00.

Leicestershire Police confirmed officers attended the "major incident" but no further information has been released.
