The changing rooms and swimming pool at a leisure centre will close for a number of weeks as refurbishments are carried out.

According to Wiltshire Council, the improvements at Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett will be completed by the end of July.

The changing rooms will be shut for six weeks from 17 June and the swimming pool will be closed for two weeks from 24 June.

The work will involve a complete refurbishment of the changing rooms, as well as a revamp of the flooring around the poolside.

'Fit for purpose'

People will still be able to use the pool when the changing rooms are closed, but must arrive at the centre swim-ready with a dry-robe or equivalent, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

Cabinet member for leisure, Ian Blair-Pilling, said: “We want to provide residents with well maintained and fit-for-purpose facilities to try and encourage more people to participate in sporting activities.”

Improvements at Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett began earlier this year, with the front entrance area and downstairs studio redecorated.

Wiltshire Council said it plans to invest £3m in its leisure centres during the financial year 2024-25.

Major works are planned for those in Devizes, Marlborough and Warminster.

The council manages 20 different centres across the county.
