A multiple mountain biking champion has completed her longest ride to raise funds for the hospice that treated her late father.

Tracey Moseley from Malvern joined hundreds of others to cycle 205 miles (329.9km) from the Isle of Sheppey to to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

She is hoping to raise £9,000 for St Michael's Hospice in memory of her father Michael, who died in January at 79 with pancreatic cancer.

"Having witnessed the wonderful care provided at the hospice, it made me realise why so many people want to support them," she said.

Ms Moseley took part in the Chase the Sun challenge, external, which sees participants cycle coast to coast on one of four routes across Scotland, Ireland, Italy and England.

Cyclists set off at sunrise and aimed to arrive at their destinations as the sun was setting.

Last year the athlete, who has been crowned world and British mountain biking champion multiple times, appeared in a film about the event with her dad, external, shown in cinemas across the country.

"Dad had only been diagnosed a few weeks earlier, but he still wanted to do the filming," she said.

"I had never heard of this race beforehand. Cycling has been my life, but never over this sort of distance.

"Hopefully we can raise as much money for St Michael’s Hospice as possible."

She completed the race with three friends, starting about 05:00 BST and reaching the seaside town just before 20:30 BST.

Speaking to BBC Hereford and Worcester afterwards, she said her legs were feeling surprisingly ok.

"I'm more exhausted from getting up at 03:00 BST and eating porridge then not getting to bed until 01:00 BST the following day," she said.

"I had an amazing time and very proud to actually complete the challenge."

Writing on her JustGiving page, she said she wanted to "do dad proud by riding my bike the furthest I have ever done in one day".

She has about £3,000 to go to reach her £9,000 target, which is equivalent to the daily running cost of the hospice's inpatient unit.
