Abbey art show offers glimpse into town's future

An interactive video art installation "looking to the future" is set to launch at Selby Abbey.
Local digital arts group Mediale, which commissioned the project, worked with residents of the town to "collect and curate their imagined versions of a future Selby, and the abbey".
The installation marks the launch of a two-year cultural events programme in Selby, Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet.
The We Are Here display will run until 7 July.
The Rev Canon of Selby Abbey John Weetman said We Are Here "looks to the future of the area while inviting people to visit Selby Abbey and experience it in a new way".
It was designed by Manchester-based artists idontloveyouanymore, working alongside residents.
Mediale said the installation explored "our natural desire to contemplate radically different future, reframe past histories and connect them to the present".
It forms part of the Now Then! programme, which aims to install civic pride and regenerate the towns of Selby, Tadcaster and Sherburn-in-Elmet.
"We want Now Then! to enable local people to see where they live through fresh eyes and this launch exhibition does just that," said the Rev Canon Weetman.
North Yorkshire Council has been awarded £350,000 by Arts Council England’s Place Partnership fund to deliver Now Then!, which is also backed by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and North Yorkshire’s Cultural Development Fund.
The installation will run from 10:00 BST until 16:00 daily.
