A father and son from East Yorkshire are taking part in huge gathering of ex-military vehicles in northern France to mark D-Day.

Around 300 restored military vehicles are involved, including a Jeep restored by Nick Bullock and his son Jake.

It is part of events marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion in history.

Over 1,000 members of the Military Vehicle Trust (MVT) have travelled from across Europe for the anniversary.

Jake, who started renovating his Jeep during lockdown said it was his "dream" to take it to Normandy to be part of the commemorations.

"That was the one place I really wanted to take it."

The 21-year-old, who is studying engineering at university, said his passion for restoring ex-military vehicles came from his father, who in turn was inspired by his father.

Mr Bullock senior said: "People of a certain age built model kits as kids - and I did that like everybody else, and they got bigger and bigger and bigger, to a point where they became real."

He owns several military vehicles, including one bearing the emblem of his grandfather's regiment, who lost his life while serving in Normandy in 1944.

"I think my interest probably came from that because I was just around it all the time," he added.

MVT members have taken motorcycles, Jeeps, command cars, ambulances, trucks and a host of other vehicles to take part in various events between 4-9 June.

It will be the MVT's 50th year of running the annual journey.
