Manslaughter charge almost a year after assault

A man has been charged with manslaughter almost a year after a serious assault, police have said.

Essex Police were called to an incident in Legg Street, Chelmsford, just before 21:15 BST on 2 August 2023 - and a man was arrested at the scene.

The victim, 60-year-old Gamal Nasrallah Hassan, died in hospital two days later.

Kimarley Anthony, 21, of Fox Crescent, Chelmsford has been charged with manslaughter and will appear before magistrates in Colchester on 13 August.

Police believed the incident began at the junction of New Street and Legg Street and continued into Legg Street, where the victim was assaulted.

A spokesperson from Essex Police said: "Inquiries within our Serious Crime Directorate have remained ongoing and on Friday, 12 July a charge was authorised as part of this investigation."
