A teenager who was stabbed to death in a city park has been named by police.
Officers said 17-year-old Harleigh Hepworth died in the attack at West Park in Wolverhampton at 16:30 GMT on Thursday.
A murder investigation was launched and the force said inquiries were continuing "at pace".
The park remained closed on Friday while forensic officers examined the scene and patrols in the area were increased.
Officers have also been making door-to-door inquiries and were reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Ch Supt Rich Fisher said: "Another young life has tragically been taken by knife crime and our focus is bringing those responsible to justice.”
He said officers were keeping Harleigh’s family updated about the investigation and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
Ch Supt Fisher added: "We know how destructive and cruel knife crime is and we are working with partners across the city to educate youngsters, support those who are vulnerable, and help our children stay safe.
"That work will continue as we will not tolerate such violence on our streets."
Wolverhampton South West MP Stuart Anderson described Harleigh’s death as a tragic loss of life and offered his condolences to the family.
“I am confident that the police will apprehend the offender, ensuring they face the full force of the law for this horrendous crime,” he added.
