Man arrested after 10 hour stand-off at hotel

A man has been arrested after claiming to have a gun in his hotel room and making threats to kill, police have said.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to reports of a man making threats to members of the public at the Premier Inn at Loggans near Hayle at 01:30 BST on Thursday.

After a 10 hour stand-off between the 42-year-old and emergency services, the man was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and making threats to kill.

Police said he remained in custody.

'A contained incident'

Armed response officers were deployed to the scene, along with police negotiators, a dog unit, response units, a drone team, firefighters and paramedics.

When police arrived, the man told them he did not have a weapon, but he had barricaded himself into his room.

Superintendent Jim Saunders, tactical firearms commander, said: "This was a contained incident and there was no wider risk to the public.

"Searches and inquiries are ongoing at the scene but at this time no firearm has been located."
