Young members of Wolves Disability FC will play on the pitch at Molineux during the Premier League club's clash with Sheffield this weekend.

The under-16s will take on their counterparts from Sheffield United during half-time at Sunday's game.

The team first played against Cardiff at half-time during a Premier League fixture in 2019, which produced "a fantastic response" from the fans prompting increased interest, Gavin Jones from Wolves Foundation said.

Disability football has been run through the foundation for more than 10 years and has gone from "strength to strength", he added.

Wolves Disability FC operate eight teams across three different age groups – adults, under-16s and under-12s – with weekly training sessions and regular fixtures in the Staffordshire FA Ability Counts League, the team said.

Earlier this week, the teams confirmed a new sponsorship contract with healthcare charity Nuffield Health, which the club said would help them move forward.

Mr Jones, who oversees the Disability FC set-up, said players always enjoyed taking to the pitch at Molineux.

“The first game we played at half-time, against Cardiff back in 2019, produced such a fantastic response from the fans and it’s been great to see the increased interest which has followed as a result," he said.

“The different teams put in a great amount of work in training and fixtures during the season, but this is always a big highlight for those who get to play at Molineux.

“Hopefully it will be another great spectacle on Sunday and another fantastic opportunity to showcase a really important part of the Foundation’s work.”
