TSB says changing customer habits are behind the decision to close the branch in Manor Street, Bridlington

Bridlington’s TSB bank is set to close in September as part of 36 branch closures across the UK.

TSB said the decision was made due to an increase in customers using online banking.

The latest round of closures will leave TSB with 175 branches across the country, in addition to shared face-to-face banking services, such as local banking hubs.

Andy Case, a regional officer for the trade union Unite, described the decision as a "grave mistake".

"These workers perform essential work in the fraud departments and across the branch network," Mr Case said.

Unite said it would be holding fresh negotiations with TSB about ways to reduce job losses.

A spokesman for TSB said the decision to close any branch was “never taken lightly”, but “customers are now doing most of their banking digitally and we need to move to a better balance of digital and face-to-face services”.

It will be the second recent bank closure in Bridlington, after the town’s Barclays branch closed in March last year.

The TSB spokesman said customers were still able to use telephone, digital and video banking services.
