Light Night is returning for a second year

A laser show is returning to Yorkshire.

Light Night lit up the coastal skies last year and it is back for a second time.

The event starts tonight and runs until Sunday.

Kerry Carruthers, chief executive of Yorkshire Coast BID, says this year’s show will feature more lasers, dates and locations as a way to “showcase the scale and diversity of the Yorkshire coast”.

Taking place every night between 19:00 GMT and 22:00 GMT, the idea behind the event is to shine a light on iconic locations and landmarks along the Yorkshire coast.

Yorkshire Coast BID says the skies will be “illuminated with lasers for 25 miles”.

The lasers will be hosted at The Forum in Bridlington and The Promenade in Withernsea.

They will also be shown at Whitby Abbey, Raven Hall Hotel in Ravenscar, South Bay in Scarborough and the Chalk Tower at Flamborough.

Light Night has been created by Yorkshire Coast BID in collaboration with Polestar Productions to showcase the beauty of the coast, while also attracting visitors outside of the peak tourist season.

Ms Carruthers added: “There are so many incredible, historical and cultural landmarks and viewpoints across the coast.

“We see this as an event with great potential to keep evolving to not only attract visitors to stay in the area, but also provide a free activity for residents to enjoy and a reminder for us all about what the area is known for.”
