A Wakefield bar has had its licence revoked after a police investigation into alleged drug-taking at the premises.

The Rooftop, on Westgate in the city centre, has been stripped of its permission to sell alcohol by a council sub-committee.

Officers carried out a search of the venue in the early hours of Sunday 3 March, where about 40 people were present, West Yorkshire Police said.

A specialist dog indicated around a quarter of those had had recent contact with drugs, according to officers.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Following further enquiries, he was also arrested on suspicion of further drug offences and possession of offensive weapons, the force said.

Police said he remained on conditional bail while enquiries continued.

Insp Paul Fraser, from West Yorkshire Police, said: "Criminal or anti-social behaviour within one venue has a knock-on effect for other businesses in the area.

"We want Wakefield city centre to be a safe destination for all and would urge anyone with concerns to please report them so that they can be acted on by the police and partners."
