Thousands of people headed to Shrewsbury’s annual food festival over the weekend as the event was held for the 11th time.

The festival in Quarry Park hosted more than 200 independent food, drink, home and garden stalls as well as cookery classes, live music and activities for children.

About 26,000 visitors were expected over Saturday and Sunday at the event, which had recruited about 100 volunteers to help with its operations.

Alongside the usual activities, a special performance was put on to say thank you to Shrewsbury’s town crier Martin Wood for his 40 years of service.

The Of One Accord Choir sang a version of ABBA’s Thank You for the Music on Sunday and dedicated it to Mr Wood, who has been in the role since 1984.

Following the performance, he said: "Thank you guys, that was absolutely wonderful. Is it going to go to number one?"
