'Big' main burst causes water fountain in street

A "big" burst main sent water spurting high into the sky in St Helier.

Jersey Water said on social media water went 20ft (6.1m) into the air following the incident on Kensington Place on Tuesday.

States of Jersey Police said the road was shut between Kensington Street and Cheapside, but could still be accessed from The Esplanade.

Engineers were able to fix the burst main but the road would not reopen until Wednesday, Jersey Water said.

A post on X, formerly known as Twitter,, external by Jersey Water said the incident had led to a "fountain" of water shooting up from the burst main.

In a post on Facebook, external just before 10:30 BST, Jersey Water said the incident was "definitely a big burst" which were "relatively rare".

Jersey Water said the burst main was fixed by the early afternoon and local water pressure was back to normal.
