A mountain rescue team used a drone to help guide two climbers to safety on one of the UK's toughest mountain ridges.

Glencoe MRT said the two people were experienced and well-equipped, but had got stuck while attempting to take a short cut off Aonach Eagach in Glen Coe.

Volunteer rescuers used binoculars to find the pair on the ridge before sending up the drone.

A team spokesperson said: "Via the drone we were able to see a safe route for the pair and advise them via mobile telephone."

Members of the team also headed up the ridge to make sure the two got down safely.

Aonach Eagach is a long ridge above Glen Coe with a series of summits, the highest being 967m (3,172ft) Sgòrr nam Fiannaidh.

It attracts climbers due to the opportunities it offers for scrambling, a mountaineering term meaning the use of hands to help keep balance on difficult terrain.

At its narrowest point, Aonach Eagach has a row of jagged pinnacles.
